This is awesome. I had a long conversation with a very talented musician friend this break. He was explaining how innovative some of the artists these days can be and how it's been systemically sound saturated to be drab and unsubtle.

Don't get me started... :) Between the psych and sociology classes and the dog training, it is clear that carrot/stick only works for some things sometimes - on any creature, really. External or monetary reward only goes so far. But since we've been doing it this way forever, there's no reason to change, right? :)

I saw this as well... I was INCREDIBLY lucky to be out there two nights before with my 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain Celestron refractor (what a name!) at McDonald Observatory stargazing all night with some seasoned veterans who were going to the star party the next night. It was a PHENOMENAL experience because they really knew how to use a telescope much better than I. Several of the astronomer staff at the observatory commented that it was one of the best viewing nights they'd ever seen (and that's saying a lot out there). I'll never forget it... it really looked like that on that night.
If you EVER get a chance to go out to Ft Davis and visit the observatory, do it.
I'm often taken aback by the realization that a brilliant, expansive, and FULL night sky used to be the normal human experience throughout history until the last couple hundred years with the coming of significant light pollution. How differently people before us must have perceived the night sky, and how much bigger of a part of their lives it surely was.
Look at all them PURDY stars! Yeehaw!
