Haddington’s… A foodie’s bar…
So last Friday, I went down to my new favorite bar in the world. Haddington’s- a huge time was had by all. As folks who know me know, I’m a big foodie and I love a good drink… This place takes its drinks seriously. Sitting at the bar, my friends and I were treated to a fine evening. The bartender served me a classic drink (sazerac) and we chatted about other classic cocktails, and then I had a steak tartare appetizer and asked him to make me a drink to go with it… He made me a Martinez – the Martini’s ancestor… A really great history lesson in a glass. Later we also had a Vieux Carre… Another classic New Orleans cocktail, which I just determined I have the ingredients for here… So if you’ve got a stocked bar, try these on for size, they’re very nice…
And props to Brandon at Haddington’s with whom I was able to have a substantive discussion over whether Ardbeg or Laphroig was the better Islay scotch for using in a blood and sand…
A physics / engineering joke. No — really.
Newton, Pascal, and Einstein are playing hide-and-go-seek in heaven.Einstein closes his eyes and starts counting.Pascal goes and hides behind a cloud.Newton stays where he is, and draws a 1mx1m square on the floor around him.Einstein finishes counting and turns around.”Ah ha, Newton! I found you!”"No you haven’t, you’ve found one Newton over 1m2 . . . You found Pascal.”
I’m sorry, if you didn’t laugh. I really am….
Everything is a Remix, the ideas episode
“I invented nothing new. I simply assembled the discoveries of other men behind whom were centuries of work. Had I worked fifty or ten or even five years before, I would have failed. So it is with every new thing. Progress happens when all the factors that make for it are ready and then it is inevitable. To teach that a comparatively few men are responsible for the greatest forward steps of mankind is the worst sort of nonsense.” — Henry Ford

If you’ve not watched the 3 ‘Everything is a Remix’ videos, you have an opportunity to catch some really well written, well edited and well produced web-video about ideas, creativity and copyright. Watch and comment! One point, Kirby puts his credits actually sort of in the middle of the show. If you stop after seeing the credits, you’re missing some of the best of these.

See parts 1 and part 2 as well… In fact, watch these first if you want a non-Memento-movie experience.
Films For Father’s Day : My take…
NPR’s Tell me more talks about films for Father’s Day…. Key ones I would put here are:
1. Breaking Away. I’m sorry the fabulous turn by Paul Dooley as the key character’s Dad is just so memorable to me… the movie ends with yet another surprised look from him…
2. Field of Dreams…. care to have a catch?
3. The Incredibles… it always gets a little dusty in the theater at at least one point for me now during this movie now that I’m a dad.
4. Late addition – My Life – an early’ish Michael Keaton movie – one I forgot as I saw it once. I don’t really want to see it again as it has been aptly described as a Beaches type movie for men. Think the story of a dad documenting his life lessons a la ‘The Last Lecture’.
